mandisa fund

The Mandisa Fund is a bursary fund at St Anne’s Diocesan College that provides opportunities for the daughters of Facilities Staff and girls from the local Midlands community who meet the criteria and would ordinarily not be able to take up the opportunity due to financial constraints.

The project was inspired by a desire to nurture a sense of belonging among staff, pupils, and St Anne’s families. Spearheaded by the Ngikhona Transformation Committee—comprising both staff and pupils—it symbolises the College’s intentional commitment to fostering an inclusive community.
The Mandisa statue, a generous gift from the Dakile family, now stands proudly outside the chapel as a symbol of the College’s transformative journey and a reminder of the importance of creating opportunities for young women who might not otherwise have been able to attend St Anne’s.
Mandisa honours the first Black African girl to begin her St Anne’s journey in Form 2 (Grade 8) in 1981 and matriculate in 1985. Mandisa Penny Ntloko-Petersen was that history-maker, and her daughter subsequently matriculated in 2025.

The statue does not resemble Mandisa but is a more universal representation. It is fitting that she is named Mandisa, which means ‘one who, by her presence, brings happiness,’ in isiXhosa.
